Penny Haw worked as a journalist, editor, publisher and entrepreneur for more than thirty years before braving the literary waters as an author.
She began her career in business-to-business publishing and was, for almost a decade, the owner and publisher of a successful sports trade magazine before selling it to focus on her writing. After freelancing for many leading South African newspapers, magazines and websites, including writing columns for the country’s preeminent daily, Business Day, and editing and producing magazines and newsletters for top brands, Penny’s first book was published to high acclaim in 2017.
Nicko, The Tale of a Vervet Monkey on an African Farm is a children’s chapter book based on a true story. It was reprinted in 2018 and 2020, and is included in middle-grade school curricula. Since then, Penny has turned her hand to writing literary fiction. Her writing expounds her love for animals and the outdoors, and explores the interconnectedness animals, nature and all other living things.
Penny lives in Hout Bay near Cape Town, South Africa with her husband and three dogs. Follow her on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
