About

Penny Haw (first choice)

I am a writer. To begin with, of articles and columns for newspapers, magazines and, eventually, websites. I’ve written for Business Day, Sunday Times, Financial Mail, Sunday Independent, The Weekender and many others I’ve forgotten and you might not recognise.

Now, I am a writer of books, all of which feature strong, interesting and independent women. They also illustrate my love for animals and the outdoors, and explore the interconnectedness of all living things.

My first book, Nicko—The Tale of a Vervet Monkey on an African Farm is a children’s book. It was first published by Penguin Random House South Africa in 2017 and is now included in middle-grade school curricula.

I have written three novels for adults—not to be confused with those adults referred to by the descriptor ‘the adult film industry’.

The first of these, The Wilderness Between Us will be released by Köehler Books on July 31, 2021. The book is available for pre-order in all formats on Amazon here. You can also go to the book’s Goodreads page here and click on ‘want to read’. Thanks!

My debut historical fiction, Aleen will be published by Sourcebooks in 2022. You can read more about this in the news section of this site.

I live on the slopes of a mountain near the sea not far from Cape Town in South Africa, where I walk my dogs with my husband, run and read when I’m not at my keyboard. You can follow me on TwitterInstagram and Facebook.
